Trust to adopt e-rostering system

A hospital trust has announced the imminent implementation of new software to administer nurse rosters which will organise and keep track of the working patterns of more than 2,000 staff.

Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has awarded the contract to Manpower Software, which will be supplying its MAPS Healthroster software for use across the trust’s sites.

The trust said that key to choosing the solution was the company’s proven e-rostering capability, along with its strong user base in NHS trusts across the local area.

“It was of primary importance that the trust purchased an e-rostering system which the nursing staff found easy to use as they will be the main users of the system,” said Mary Dunne, the trust’s director of nursing, quality and patient services.

“During our evaluations it was very clear that MAPS Healthroster was the product which the nursing staff preferred to use.”

The trust already uses Manpower Software’s Bank Staff Management System as part of the MAPS Health Suite. Expected benefits from the integrated solution include efficient use of staff, time savings for senior nurses, improved fairness for nursing staff and accurate payroll.

“I have not seen any e-rostering solution that offers capacity to flex staffing in specialist areas in response to immediate, actual clinical demand. This leads either to the systems being manually overridden or to swings between overcapacity and undercapacity. Thought needs to be given to this when investing in and implementing e-rostering solutions.” – Paul Young, Ealing, UK
