Over 8,000 health workers in Scotland are owed pay in arrears due to errors with salary structures and back pay, it has been revealed.
A total of 8,274 NHS staff are still to receive back pay owed to them under a new health service pay structure, according to Scottish Government figures. And, more than 14,000 are still to be included in the system and allocated a new pay band.
The figures were revealed in response to a parliamentary question from the Scottish Labour Party. The party’s health spokesman Dr Richard Simpson said he was “deeply concerned” that staff were still owed money.
He added: “Nicola Sturgeon needs to step in and ensure that health boards tackle this issue with the greatest priority.”
The Scottish Government pledged to deal with those owed back pay as soon as possible and, said the proportion still waiting had been reduced.
A spokesman said: “We inherited a situation where tens of thousands of staff were still waiting for back payment. We have steadily reduced that number to less than 5%.”
