Nicox presented two scientific posters at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Annual Meeting, which took place from May 5 to May 9 in Seattle, Washington.
The posters reported research results on the role of nitric oxide (NO) in the physiology of the eye and more specifically in the regulation of intraocular pressure (IOP). The abstracts are available on the ARVO Annual meeting website.
The first poster was entitled Intraocular pressure and cGMP aqueous humour levels in spontaneous ocular hypertensive rabbits and following transient IOP changes (Program Number: 426 / Poster Board Number: A0157). This study evaluated whether changes in IOP are reflected by modifications in NO/cGMP signalling. The results showed that IOP is inversely related to cGMP levels suggesting a role of NO/cGMP signalling pathway in the modulation of ocular pressure.
The second poster was entitled Effects of diverse Nitric Oxide donation on ocular haemodynamic and intraocular pressure in normotensive rabbits (Program Number: 4450 / Poster Board Number: D0190). The objective of the study was to assess the relationship of IOP lowering properties with the NO/cGMP-mediated vasorelaxant activity of NO donors releasing various amount of NO. The data resulting from this study showed that the magnitude of IOP lowering is related to the extent of functional NO release from NO donors.
In addition, a poster on latanoprostene bunod phase 2b results were also presented by our partner Bausch + Lomb: Latanoprostene bunod 0.024% significantly reduces and maintains mean diurnal intra-ocular pressure (IOP) compared to latanoprost 0.005% in subjects with open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension (Program Number: 460 / Poster Board Number: A0191).
