PETNET Solutions marks 10th anniversary

The Scanner Centre constructed the facility to house PETNET Solutions’ cyclotron unit, which was the first commercially licensed PET cyclotron facility in the UK.  Paul Strickland Scanner Centre was one of the first in the country to offer Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging. The partnership with PETNET Solutions sees MetaTrace FDG delivered from PETNET Solutions’ dedicated Eclipse™ HP cyclotron unit to the Centre’s PET•CT systems each morning in preparation for imaging. Each tracer batch is individually created and QC tested by PETNET to ensure it meets optimum specifications.

In addition to the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre at Mount Vernon Hospital, PETNET Solutions is also responsible for the manufacture and distribution of FDG at Nottingham City Hospital. These two sites combined ensure FDG coverage across the whole of England, including at clinical and research PET imaging facilities. PETNET also has extensive capabilities to run a centre as a Managed Service.

“We were the first centre in the UK to deliver PET scans to NHS district general hospitals outside of research facilities and the collaboration with PETNET Solutions has enabled us to continue to be at the forefront of quality clinical imaging,” said Margaret Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre. “We continue to deliver Dr. Strickland’s vision of accurate diagnosis and subsequent treatment of patients. His idea to incorporate the cyclotron unit alongside the PET scanner makes the 10th anniversary of FDG delivery a significant milestone to all.”

“Our relationship with PETNET has developed immensely over the last 10 years,” said Dr Wai Lup Wong, Consultant Radiologist at the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre. “As an internationally recognised centre of excellence, it is important for us to have access to dynamic new technologies. Our partnership with PETNET continues to evolve, ensuring that we deliver the best possible service using state of the art clinical facilities in the UK.”

“We are delighted to be celebrating this milestone with the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, who we have worked with in close collaboration since delivering the first commercial FDG dose in the UK ten years ago,” said Ian Brown, Operations Manager at PETNET Solutions. “As molecular imaging evolves, so has our offering and we deliver products and services that expand the value of PET across the whole of England, helping to provide a reliable and flexible service to meet the demands of providers, referring physicians and patients.”

PETNET Solutions recently became part of Siemens Molecular Imaging, complementing one of the most comprehensive molecular imaging portfolios in the industry including imaging equipment for clinical settings and preclinical research, cyclotrons, radiochemistry modules and investigational imaging biomarkers. This relationship places PETNET Solutions on the cutting edge by providing new molecular imaging biomarkers to the PET community.
