LSI Architects has unveiled its design for the new East Coast Palliative Care Centre at Norfolk’s James Paget Hospital in the UK, aiming to integrate functionality and aesthetics in a therapeutic environment.
The £1.5m centre near Great Yarmouth, which is expected to treat up to 10,000 people a year, will include clinic and counselling rooms, plus a lounge, a quiet room and a therapeutic garden.
It will offer a holistic approach to care through a wide range of services, including expert clinical assessment and symptom management, emotional and social support, practical help and complementary therapies.
Patients and relatives who have been affected by life-threatening illnesses such as cancer will benefit from art and music and be able to access the beautiful surroundings of a landscaped garden. The concept for the scheme was led by Gerald Buergel, a recent graduate on a one-year placement from Germany.
