Nurse accused of raping patient

A male hospital nurse has gone on trial accused of raping a 16-year-old girl in his care.

Oliver Balicao is alleged to have taken the teenager to a disabled toilet at the A&E department of the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

She was supposed to provide a urine sample, but was drowsy after receiving treatment for a drug overdose.

Oxford Crown Court was told she then fell over, and the 33-year-old nurse attacked her after closing the door behind them.

Balicao, of Bicester, has admitted to police that he had sex with the girl, but said it was consensual.

He denies raping her on March 12 but has pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the jury she was in a confused and “dreamy” state as she recovered from the overdose.

She said: “It didn’t feel real. I wished I had screamed or something. I was shocked and didn’t expect that to happen.”

Prosecutors claim Balicao stood up afterwards and apologised before escorting her back to her cubicle.

She later complained and the defendant was arrested by police.
