New health IT infrastructure for Swedish county council

Hospitals in county council Region Skåne in Sweden are to receive a new overall IT infrastructure for information exchange and cooperation.

There are 10 hospitals in Region Skåne, with 900,000 radiological examinations performed each year.

The new system, to be provided by Swedish healthcare IT company Sectra, will support automatic sharing and technology distribution of radiology information to all departments involved in the radiology workflow.

The software will allow hospitals and clinics to exchange radiological patient information independent of the supplier of the radiology images, while access will be restricted to authorised users.

“With the Sectra system, we have the possibility of information exchange and cooperation within and outside the region,” said Eva Hansson, strategist in the management group – Programme Office in Region Skåne.

“Through this solution we gain IT support that is geographically and organisationally independent and that provides a seamless handling of care processes between private and public care providers. The information is uniform, coherent, accessible and correct, which will contribute to improved and more efficient care.”

This latest agreement builds on existing contracts Sectra has with Region Skåne.
