Clinicians at Malta’s Mater Dei hospital can now order laboratory tests and X-rays online via iSoft’s order entry system.
The clinical system is now used on three wards with projected roll out to 40 wards over the next couple of months.
Some 2,200 clinical staff are currently using iSOFT’s patient management system including staff in accident and emergency.
iSoft’s solutions are integral to the government’s strategy for an integrated health information solution (IHIS).
A Mater Dei hospital spokesperson said: “The new systems are key to the IHIS and complement the other first-class facilities now available at the new hospital and are fundamental in improving the continuity and quality of care.
“With rapid access to detailed clinical information for example, doctors can make speedier diagnoses so patients are treated sooner and leave hospital sooner.”
Mater Dei hospital expect the introduction of order entry and results reporting to improve quality and efficiency of care and cut costs.
