A hospital in Somerset, UK, has installed a state-of-the-art heart imaging system to deal with increased demand from the area’s ageing population.
Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital has fitted the Siemens AXIOM Artis zee interventional cardiac imaging system to replace its existing eight-year-old equipment. The new technology will be used for coronary angiography, angioplasty and cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT).
The move is part of the hospital’s strategic plan to extend the current CRT services. Since the installation of the new catheterisation laboratory, the Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust hospital has developed plans to provide 24-hour percutaneous coronary intervention treatment.
Gill Stapleton Smith, lead cardiac radiographer at Musgrove Hospital, said: “It is a wonderful system to work with. In addition to the fantastic imaging and system flexibility, patient throughput has been greatly improved, reducing the pressure on staff and the hospital as a whole.”
Darren Parker, regional sales manager at Siemens Healthcare, said: “The Artis zee is a superior imaging system that will continue to deliver fantastic results at Musgrove Hospital for a long time.”
