In asking someone about their stay in hospital, they will undoubtedly describe the care they received from the nurses. Doctors do take care of more patients than nurses but it is nurses who know first-hand the importance of patient care. It is the job of the nurse to adequately communicate and care for the patients in their wards.
The nursing profession, like teaching, is often an underappreciated one. All of the things that nurses take care of in one shift go unnoticed unless something goes wrong. The nurse often becomes the most important person in a hospital patient’s life. They can communicate with patients on human level in a way that doctors often don’t have the time for. With caring for others comes a deep appreciation for the human spirit.
