Eizo acquires medical monitor business

Eizo Nanao Corporation, a global manufacturer of high-end visual display products, has announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Siemens’s medical monitor business from the Siemens A&D Group.

Eizo, who are based in Hakusan, Japan, and are represented in more than 50 countries, will take on 130 employees from the developers of the Siemens operations team in Karlsruhe in Germany and related employees from the USA, France and China.

Yoshitaka Jitsumori, president and CEO of the Eizo Nanao Corporation said: “Whereas Siemens’ strength is in monitors for x-ray, tomography and mammography, Eizo is successful with monitors for Picture Archiving and Communications Systems applications. With Eizo producing in Japan and Siemens in Germany, the acquisition creates the strong basis for boosting Eizo’s medical monitor business.”

Dr Helmuth Ludwig, division president of the systems engineering division at Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D), said: “In the future, only suppliers with a coordinated and complete range of medical monitors will be able to show profitable growth in this segment. We part from the profitable monitor business as it does not belong to A&D’s core activities and will be more successful when linked up to a strong supplier in the long run.”

Eizo says that the medical monitor business achieved sales revenue of €59m last year. The transaction is subject to approval of the relevant authorities. The acquisition is set to be completed by the end of this year.
