A hospital in the UK has taken steps to protect its day theatre equipment from theft by installation a wireless unlocking secure storage system.
The storage system, at Cobham Community Hospital in Surrey, is accessed by staff via a wireless transmitter key, and locks itself automatically after use. An “e-lock” feature in the system allows staff to monitor information on time, date and key holder access.
Manufactured by APC Solutions, the product is designed to be converted to static to mobile if required, and the 75mm deep draw can carry weights of up to 200kg.
Jakie Theodorou at Cobham Day Surgery Unit, said that the “storage systems give us the peace of mind that important hospital belongings are now securely stored. They are compact and aesthetically very pleasing; with the draws featuring useful compartments to separate equipment.”
Crime is estimated to cost the UK’s NHS £1m a week.
