German hospital chain makes purchase

A private hospital company in Germany has announced the purchase of a 153-bed hospital in Warburg, Germany.

Last Friday, it was announced that a purchase agreement had concluded between representatives of Krankenhauszweckverband Warburg and Rhön-Klinikum AG, and would take effect retroactively from 1 January 2008.

The hospital, St Petri-Hospital Warburg, was formerly owned 60% by the District of Höxter and 40% by the City of Warburg. The sale price was not disclosed.

St Petri-Hospital Warburg, has 153 and just under 300 staff. The inpatient service comprises internal medicine (79 beds), surgery (46), urology (17 beds), paediatrics (7 beds) and otorhinolaryngology (four beds). In 2007 the hospital treated a total of 5,658 patients.

The previous owners decided to sell the hospital due to the “current challenges” of the German healthcare system, Rhön Klinikum said.
