Hospital steps up security measures

Personal security guards have been made available to staff at a hospital in Essex after a junior doctor was kidnapped and robbed as he arrived for work.

The attack took place in the grounds of Queen’s Hospital, Romford, when Ahmed Adlan, 26, was ambushed by a man wielding a large knife.

The victim was forced into the passenger seat of his BMW car and driven to a cashpoint at a nearby petrol station where the knifeman and a second attacker drew money from his account.

He was released unharmed three hours later in Stevenage, Herts, but the two attackers drove off with his car, wallet and mobile phone.

All staff at the hospital are now offered an escort to their vehicles, Barking, Havering and Redbridge Hospitals NHS Trust said.

A spokesman said: “Queen’s is a new hospital and all car parks are well lit and covered by CCTV cameras.

“Following the incident, the trust immediately increased the security measures already in place. The number of security staff on the Queen’s site was increased to ensure regular patrols of the car parks between 6pm and 6am.

“A personal escort to vehicles by a member of the security team has also been made available to all staff members.”
